Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Accountant to join our team in Huntsville, Alabama on a Contract basis. This role will support core accounting operations, with a strong focus on closing activities, financial accuracy, and day-to-day transaction processing. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across the general ledger while helping maintain compliance and readiness for audit-related requests.

Responsibilities:

• Lead month-end accounting activities, including preparing entries, reviewing balances, and helping ensure timely financial close.

• Maintain accurate general ledger records by analyzing account activity and resolving discrepancies as they arise.

• Perform account and bank reconciliations to verify completeness, support reporting accuracy, and address outstanding items.

• Assist with audit readiness by organizing supporting documentation and responding to requests for financial records.

• Support compliance-related accounting tasks by following established policies, maintaining documentation, and promoting accurate reporting.

• Process accounts payable transactions, review invoices for accuracy, and help ensure timely payment handling.

• Support accounts receivable activities by tracking incoming payments, applying cash, and following up on unresolved items.

• Prepare and post journal entries to reflect routine and adjusting transactions in the accounting records. Requirements • Experience in accounting roles with responsibility for month-end close activities.

• Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger processes.

• Ability to prepare journal entries and reconcile balance sheet or bank accounts accurately.

• Familiarity with supporting audit preparation and maintaining organized financial documentation.

• Understanding of accounting compliance practices and attention to procedural accuracy.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.

• Proficiency in standard accounting systems and spreadsheet tools used for financial reporting.
