Job Title: Mechanical and Electrical Assembler – Automotive/Bus Manufacturing
Job Description
This role focuses on assembling mechanical, electrical, and fiberglass components for automotive or bus manufacturing. You will install and align a wide range of systems and finishes, follow detailed work instructions and drawings, and ensure that all assemblies meet dimensional, functional, and cosmetic quality standards. The position involves hands-on work with tools and equipment in a dynamic production environment, contributing directly to the final fit, finish, and performance of each vehicle.
Responsibilities
Install mechanical components such as brackets, suspension and steering components, doors, seating systems, HVAC units, fasteners, and hardware.
Install AC units, windshields, and final flooring, and support work in other assembly departments as needed.
Perform torque-controlled fastening using calibrated tools to ensure proper clamping and reliability.
Align and fit components to meet dimensional and functional requirements, maintaining specified gaps and clearances.
Identify and report fitment issues, damaged parts, or drawing discrepancies to the appropriate team members.
Route, secure, and terminate electrical wiring and cable harnesses in accordance with specifications.
Install electrical components including switches, lighting, displays, sensors, batteries, and control modules.
Perform crimping, stripping, and connector installation in accordance with IPC/WHMA-A-620 or equivalent standards.
Conduct basic electrical continuity and functional checks to verify proper operation of installed systems.
Install fiberglass body panels, roof caps, access doors, insulation, and exterior trim.
Drill, bond, seal, and fasten composite components using adhesives, sealants, and mechanical fasteners.
Perform minor surface preparation, trimming, sanding, and finishing on fiberglass and body components as required.
Ensure proper panel alignment, gaps, and cosmetic appearance on exterior and interior surfaces.
Install finishing components such as seat assemblies, lighting panels, railing systems, and component enclosures.
Apply finishing trims, moldings, and sealants to achieve a clean and professional appearance.
Clean and prepare the bus for final presentation and delivery standards.
Use hand and power tools, basic measuring tools, templates, and jigs safely and effectively.
Follow work instructions, drawings, torque specifications, and quality checkpoints throughout the build process.
Complete in-process inspections and document work as required to support traceability and quality records.
Support quality investigations, rework, and corrective actions to resolve issues and improve processes.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S principles.
Essential Skills
Experience with mechanical assembly, including installation of brackets, suspension, steering components, doors, seating systems, and HVAC units.
Ability to perform torque-controlled fastening using calibrated tools.
Skill in aligning and fitting components to meet dimensional and functional requirements.
Experience with electrical assembly, including routing, securing, and terminating wiring and cable harnesses.
Ability to install electrical components such as switches, lighting, displays, sensors, batteries, and control modules.
Proficiency in crimping, stripping, and connector installation in accordance with IPC/WHMA-A-620 or equivalent standards.
Ability to conduct basic electrical continuity and functional checks.
Experience with fiberglass and body assembly, including installation of body panels, roof caps, access doors, insulation, and exterior trim.
Ability to drill, bond, seal, and fasten composite components using adhesives, sealants, and mechanical fasteners.
Capability to perform minor surface preparation, trimming, sanding, and finishing.
Ability to use hand and power tools, basic measuring tools, templates, and jigs.
Ability to follow work instructions, engineering drawings, torque specifications, and quality checkpoints.
Attention to detail in completing in-process inspections and documenting work.
Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area following 5S principles.
Physical ability to perform frequent use of hands and fingers for welding, grinding, and assembly tasks.
Physical ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment up to 40 lbs, with occasional heavier lifting with assistance.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods during a shift.
Good hand-eye coordination for precise fitting and assembly operations.
Good visual acuity, including color and depth perception, for inspecting work and reading drawings.
Ability to hear alarms, signals, and communicate effectively in a noisy environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with MIG welding or related welding processes.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Background in general labor or production environments.
Experience in painting or surface finishing is beneficial.
Automotive repair experience, particularly in auto assembly or automotive manufacturing, is an asset.
Experience with automotive or bus assembly, including mechanical, electrical, and body systems.
Familiarity with quality investigations, rework, and corrective actions in a manufacturing setting.
Understanding and practical application of 5S or similar workplace organization methodologies.

Work Environment
This role is based in a manufacturing and assembly environment with frequent use of hands and fingers for welding, grinding, and assembly tasks. You will regularly lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment up to 40 lbs, with occasional heavier lifting performed with assistance. The position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods during a shift, as well as good hand-eye coordination for precise fitting and assembly operations. You must have good visual acuity, including color and depth perception, to inspect welds, assemblies, and to read drawings and work instructions. Effective communication and the ability to hear alarms and signals are important in a noisy production area. The environment includes exposure to hot and cold temperatures depending on the production area and seasonal conditions, and work is performed in moderate to high noise levels where hearing protection may be required. You may encounter welding fumes, dust, and airborne particles, with proper respiratory protection and ventilation provided as required. Work areas are well lit, with occasional use of supplemental task lighting. You will walk and work on uneven, metal, or grating surfaces, and may need to climb ladders or work at elevated positions. Personal protective equipment such as welding helmets, gloves, protective clothing, and other PPE is required in line with safety standards. There is exposure to sparks, molten metal, and moving machinery, and strict adherence to all safety procedures is essential.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Riverside, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $25.00/hr.
