Job Title: Laborer
Job Description
This role supports cargo operations at the Port of Tampa by safely loading and unloading vessels, organizing containers in the yard using a yard dog, and working on the dock in compliance with OSHA protocols. You will contribute directly to the efficient flow of cargo while operating equipment and performing physically active tasks in an outdoor environment.
Responsibilities
Load and unload cargo from vessels at the Port of Tampa in a safe and efficient manner.
Operate a yard dog to move, stage, and organize containers around the yard according to operational needs.
Work on the dock while following all applicable OSHA safety protocols and site procedures.
Inspect containers and equipment visually before use and report any damage or safety concerns.
Follow directions from supervisors and coordinate with team members to maintain smooth cargo flow.
Maintain a clean and organized work area on the dock and in the yard.
Use proper lifting techniques and safe work practices during all loading and unloading activities.
Adhere to all site rules, traffic patterns, and equipment operating guidelines while on the property.
Essential Skills
Proven yard dog or yard driver experience.
Ability to safely operate a yard dog to move and position containers.
Knowledge of basic OSHA safety practices relevant to dock and yard work.
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing for long periods and handling cargo.
Capacity to work safely in an outdoor environment with varying temperatures, including heat.
Strong attention to safety procedures and willingness to follow established protocols.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working in a port, dock, or similar cargo-handling environment.
Familiarity with general warehouse, logistics, or freight operations.
Ability to communicate clearly with team members and follow verbal and written instructions.
Reliability and punctuality for scheduled shifts and operational needs.

Work Environment
This position is based at the Port of Tampa in an outdoor, dock and yard setting. You will work in hot weather and other changing outdoor conditions, spending long hours on your feet and operating equipment such as a yard dog. The environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, with strict adherence to OSHA protocols and site safety rules. Work attire should be practical for outdoor, physical labor and suitable for operating equipment in a cargo-handling environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tampa, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
