Job Title: Welder

Job Description

As a welder, you will be responsible for welding and building structural components such as catwalks, stairways, handrails, and support structures.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and assemble steel structures and equipment according to specifications.

  • Assemble, gather, and weld steel materials for products.

  • Read and interpret blueprints to complete work.

  • Operate hand tools such as grinders, drills, and impacts.

  • Follow safety requirements while performing all work duties.

  • Meet or beat project deadlines to satisfy production requirements and demands.

  • Ensure work meets quality requirements as determined by quality control and production supervision.

  • Maintain and improve department performance metrics of on-time, complete, and error-free production.

  • Operate overhead cranes and unload raw materials.

  • Perform 5S duties, record-keeping of scrap, housekeeping, and trash removal from work cells.

  • Conduct all quality control activities for the assigned work cell and have the authority to reject materials for quality issues.

  • Collaborate with area leads and supervisors on materials needed to perform duties.

  • Adapt to additional duties, responsibilities, and activities as needed.

  • Exhibit a 'Can Do' attitude to ensure orders are properly assembled for on-time, complete, and error-free delivery.

Essential Skills

  • High school degree or GED.

  • Ability to pass a weld test: 2G Single Bevel Groove on a 1” plate.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprint drawings.

  • Ability to read a tape measure to ensure accuracy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in MIG welding and structural welding.

  • Experience working with fabrication and blueprints.

  • Experience operating forklifts and other machinery.

Work Environment

Work is conducted in shifts, with the standard shift being Monday through Thursday, though Fridays are common. Expect 50-hour workweeks for at least half the year. The first shift runs from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the second shift from 4:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. The facility maintains a safety-conscious environment, providing appropriate attire such as work jeans, shirts, steel toes, and PAPR hoods, with options for backpack or belt PAPRs. The company aims to increase its workforce from 18 to 26 welders as it expands its facilities.

This is a Contract position based out of Des Moines, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.26 - $26.99/hr.
