Job Description

The Purchaser oversees the end-to-end procurement process, focusing on sourcing, negotiating, and acquiring goods and services in an efficient and cost-effective manner to support business objectives. This role develops purchasing strategies, manages vendor relationships, negotiates contracts, and ensures compliance with procurement policies and ethical standards. The Purchaser also supports operational needs by sourcing and coordinating the repair or machining of parts while providing guidance to purchasing activities within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies that support business goals and optimize cost, quality, and delivery performance.

  • Source and procure industrial products, ensuring timely and accurate purchasing to support operational requirements.

  • Source parts and coordinate sending components to be repaired or machined, ensuring proper documentation and tracking.

  • Manage relationships with suppliers and vendors, maintaining regular communication to ensure reliable supply and service.

  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with vendors to achieve cost savings while maintaining quality standards.

  • Analyze market trends, pricing, and supplier performance to inform purchasing decisions and strategy adjustments.

  • Ensure all purchasing activities comply with internal procurement policies, procedures, and ethical standards.

  • Oversee and coordinate purchasing activities, providing guidance and support to purchasing staff as needed.

  • Collect and analyze procurement data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to track performance and identify areas for improvement.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand material and service requirements and translate them into effective purchasing plans.

  • Use Microsoft Office tools to prepare reports, track orders, manage data, and communicate purchasing information clearly and accurately.

  • Resolve issues related to orders, deliveries, or vendor performance through strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Essential Skills

  • 2–3 years of experience purchasing industrial products.

  • Experience purchasing repair components and coordinating repair-related procurement activities.

  • Technical and mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and differentiate various parts and components.

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for data analysis, reporting, and communication.

  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to secure favorable terms while maintaining vendor relationships.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate options, resolve issues, and improve procurement processes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with vendors and internal stakeholders.

  • Data collection and analysis skills to track procurement KPIs and support decision-making.

  • Understanding of sourcing, vendor management, and procurement processes.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or equivalent experience in the industry.

  • Experience working within a structured supply chain or procurement function.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Capability to provide guidance and support to team members involved in purchasing activities.

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in orders, contracts, and documentation.

  • Comfort working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand product and component needs.

Work Environment

This role is based in an office-like, climate-controlled environment designed for comfort and productivity. The schedule follows a Monday through Friday workweek, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the possibility of overtime depending on business needs. Work is primarily computer-based, utilizing Microsoft Office and other standard office tools to manage purchasing activities, data, and communication.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX 77040.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr.
