About the Team
Our team drives quality across BSSe digital online sales and service experiences by scaling AI-enabled and intelligent automation throughout the CQE organization. We partner closely with Product, Engineering, and SDETs to define automation-first, risk-based quality strategies , modernize UI and API testing, and embed AI into the quality lifecycle. By reducing manual effort and accelerating defect triage through data-driven insights, we enable faster time to market, increased delivery capacity, and more reliable end‑to‑end customer journeys.
What You’ll Do
Define automation-first, risk-based quality strategies and test plans aligned to business outcomes and release goals.
Partner with Program Managers, Development Leads, and Architects to identify test scenarios and quality risks.
Design, implement, and enhance test automation to improve coverage, reliability, and regression confidence.
Drive CQE efficiency by standardizing reusable test assets and leveraging AI to:
Accelerate automation scripting
Analyze results faster
Reduce redundancy and expand coverage
Collaborate early in the design phase to define API flows, data requirements, and test strategies.
Support sustainment and regression testing for AT&T releases.
Perform environment shakeouts, sanity checks, and API validations.
Contribute to data and environment strategies addressing performance, scalability, reliability, and security .
Report defects, analyze test results, and produce quality metrics—using AI to automate reporting and improve triage.
Communicate progress proactively through governance calls, standups, reports, and escalations.
Coordinate across all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) to support certification and production deployment.
Required Technical Skills
Domain & Business Knowledge
Strong understanding of digital online platforms and self-service customer journeys , including end-to-end flows across AIA, Wireless, and Fiber.
BSSe domain expertise across digital sales and service journeys, including:
Authentication
Eligibility
Offer configuration
Cart and checkout
Order capture
Provisioning and activation
Billing
Ability to translate business rules into comprehensive, end-to-end test scenarios.
Quality Engineering & Analytics
Experience with quality analytics and observability , including defining and tracking CQE KPIs such as:
Defect leakage
Test effectiveness
Automation stability
Cycle time
Proficiency using dashboards, logs, and telemetry to drive data-informed quality decisions.
Strong defect management and triage skills, including:
Reproduction and isolation
Root-cause analysis
Transaction tracing across services using correlation and trace IDs
Hands-on troubleshooting using observability tools such as ELK (Elastic/Kibana) and Quantum Metric .
Automation, Tools & Technology
10+ years of hands-on software QA and testing experience, including 7+ years working with complex, integrated systems and service-oriented architectures.
Strong experience with:
REST and SOAP APIs
XML and JSON
API gateways
CDNs (e.g., Akamai)
Tools such as Postman and SOAP UI
Intermediate to advanced experience with test automation tools, including:
Playwright (preferred)
Robot Framework
Katalon
Appium
Hands-on experience building maintainable automation frameworks, including:
Python proficiency
Pytest and reusable automation libraries
Experience with:
API automation (REST Assured, Postman, Karate)
Contract testing (Pact)
Service virtualization
Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using:
Jenkins
GitHub Actions
Azure DevOps
Additional technical skills considered strong assets:
Power BI
SQL and NoSQL databases
Oracle
PowerShell
Selenium
Azure cloud fundamentals
GenAI-assisted testing (test generation, synthetic data, auto‑triage)
Ways of Working & Leadership
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a solid understanding of application architecture.
Experience working in Agile/SCRUM and DevOps environments.
Experience leading quality initiatives and mentoring team members.
Ability to analyze complex, multi-system requirements and design end‑to‑end, customer-focused test cases.
Experience working with vendors and offshore teams.
Previous role as a Test Lead or Test Architect on large-scale initiatives.
Nice to Have
Experience in performance, usability, security, and scalability testing.
Hands-on programming or scripting experience in Java or Python (Python is the primary required language).
Education
Preferred Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics; developer nanodegree; or equivalent professional experience.

Typically requires 10+ years of related experience . This role aligns to the Technical Career Pathway (TCP) .

This position requires office presence of a minimum of 5 days per week and is only located in the location(s) posted. No relocation is offered.
Our Principal System Engineering, earns between $174,100-$261,100 USD Annual, Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
