Job Title: Welder

Job Description

This role offers the opportunity to work in a modern, custom fabrication shop, performing primarily TIG welding on aluminum and stainless steel, along with MIG and wire feed welding on a variety of materials. You will fabricate custom components based on customer specifications, working with tubing and thicker sheet metal, and contribute to a wide range of projects from small fixtures to larger enclosures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality TIG welding on aluminum and stainless steel components.

  • Carry out MIG and wire feed welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other materials as required.

  • Weld primarily on tubing and thicker material, including sheet metal up to approximately 1/20th of an inch thick.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, weld prints, and weld symbols to complete custom fabrication projects accurately.

  • Fabricate custom parts and assemblies according to customer specifications in a job shop environment, rather than a production line.

  • Work with sheet metal fabrication processes, including operating or supporting equipment such as punch presses, lasers, turrets, and brakes as needed.

  • Use grinding and finishing tools to prepare and finish welds to meet quality and aesthetic standards.

  • Collaborate with a small, tight-knit team to plan and execute custom projects from start to finish.

  • Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in clean, safe, and optimal working condition.

  • Adapt to a wide variety of custom jobs, from smaller items like stands and holders to larger fabrications such as boxes and shells for equipment.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in MIG and TIG welding or equivalent formal welding education.

  • Proficiency in MIG and TIG welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld prints, and weld symbols for custom fabrication work.

  • Experience welding on tubing and sheet metal, including thicker material up to approximately 1/20th of an inch.

  • Hands-on experience with stainless steel welding and fabrication.

  • Competence in grinding and basic finishing of welds.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise welds.

  • Ability to thrive in a custom, non-production job shop environment where projects vary frequently.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication processes, including working with punch presses, lasers, turrets, and brakes.

  • Familiarity with laser operation and sheet metal fabrication equipment.

  • Background in a job shop or custom fabrication setting.

  • Technical training or schooling in welding or metal fabrication.

  • Desire to work on a wide variety of custom projects and learn new fabrication techniques.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively in a small shop environment.

Why Work Here?

You will join a brand-new, state-of-the-art sheet metal fabrication shop that invests in modern equipment and a clean, climate-controlled environment. The team offers full benefits, including 401(k), health, dental, and vision coverage, supporting both your present and future well-being. You will work with brand-new machines in a small, tight-knit shop where colleagues take pride in their craft and genuinely enjoy the work they do, creating a supportive and engaging atmosphere.

Work Environment

The role is based in a 30,000-square-foot, brand-new, state-of-the-art sheet metal fabrication facility. The shop is climate controlled, providing a comfortable working environment year-round. The team is small, with around ten people on the floor, fostering a close-knit, collaborative culture where many employees are passionate about their work. You will work in new welding bays equipped with modern wire feed welding machines and up-to-date fabrication equipment throughout the facility. This is a job shop, not a production line, so the work is highly customized and varies based on customer needs, ranging from small stands and fixtures to larger boxes and shells for equipment.
