Swiss CNC Machinist

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Swiss CNC Machinist to join our precision manufacturing team. This role centers on setting up, programming, and operating CNC Swiss machines to produce complex, high‑tolerance components in a modern, largely paperless, technology‑driven environment.

This position offers flexibility depending on experience and shift:

  • First Shift: A hybrid setup/programming role with opportunities for leadership within the Swiss machining area.

  • Second Shift: A highly independent, self-sufficient role responsible for maintaining production overnight.

Key Responsibilities

Setup, Programming & Machining

  • Interpret blueprints and job routers to understand part specifications, materials, tolerances, and operational sequences.

  • Plan and execute efficient machining strategies, including material requirements and order of operations.

  • Select, install, and align cutting tools appropriate for material type and machining requirements.

  • Program CNC Swiss machines using G-code and CAM software , including feeds, speeds, depths of cut, and offsets.

  • Perform complete machine setups, tool changes, and offset adjustments to maintain consistent production.

Quality Control & Process Monitoring

  • Inspect first-piece and in-process parts using precision measuring instruments to ensure compliance with specifications.

  • Monitor machine performance and cutting conditions, making real-time adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy.

  • Perform regular checks during production, including overnight monitoring on second shift if applicable.

  • Clean, prepare, and package parts according to blueprint and router requirements.

Documentation & Continuous Improvement

  • Create detailed setup sheets and accurately document job parameters for repeatability.

  • Store and manage tooling, fixtures, and CNC programs for future production runs.

  • Update job routers and process documentation to improve efficiency, accuracy, and cycle times.

  • Use shop-floor computers for time tracking, work orders, setup documentation, blueprint access, and file management.

Maintenance, Safety & Teamwork

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on machines, tooling, and related equipment.

  • Maintain a clean, organized work area in accordance with company and safety standards.

  • Follow ISO 9001 and AS9100 procedures and best practices.

  • Identify and implement process improvements related to quality, efficiency, and safety.

  • Communicate clearly with teammates and contribute positively to a collaborative work environment.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven hands-on experience as a Swiss CNC Machinist , including setup and programming.

  • Strong proficiency in G-code and CNC controls.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T .

  • Solid math skills, including geometry, algebra, and trigonometry.

  • In-depth knowledge of:

  • Swiss machine capabilities and limitations

  • Cutting tools (turning, drilling, grooving, threading, cutoff)

  • Work holding and fixturing

  • Speeds, feeds, and material cutting properties

  • Experience using precision inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, and comparators.

  • Comfortable working in a digital, paperless manufacturing environment.

  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing production needs.

  • Professional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across shifts and teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Production Swiss machining in a high-precision environment.

  • CAM software experience such as GibbsCAM or PartMaker .

  • Hybrid setup/programming roles rather than programming-only positions.

  • Independent second-shift production support.

  • Automation or robotically tended Swiss machines; experience running multiple machines is a plus.

  • Experience working under ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality systems.

  • Demonstrated success suggesting and implementing process improvements.

Work Environment

Our facility is a modern precision manufacturing environment focused on CNC Swiss machining. The shop operates under ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards and is nearly paperless, with a computer at each work center used for job tracking, documentation, and blueprint access. The Swiss area includes multiple CNC Swiss machines, some with robotic automation, offering exposure to advanced manufacturing technologies.

Both first- and second-shift opportunities are available, supporting structured daytime collaboration or independent overnight production, depending on preference and experience.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Oakdale, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $96000.00/yr.

Up to 3% 401k match, 8 Healthcare plan options, PTO 2 weeks the first year, 3 weeks @ 2, building up to 6 weeks @ 15yrs. ( Can be flexible for right candidate with years)
