Diesel Mechanic – Heavy Equipment (Field & Shop)

A well‑established, family‑owned heavy‑civil contractor is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair a wide range of construction equipment. This role supports both field service (80%) using a company‑provided service truck and shop repairs as needed. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on, self‑sufficient mechanic with strong diagnostic ability and a commitment to safe, high‑quality work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily inspections and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment

  • Diagnostics and troubleshooting on engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and components

  • Field service using a company‑provided service truck

  • Shop repairs as needed based on workload

  • Repair documentation including parts used, work performed, and equipment status

  • Coordinate with operators, supervisors, and dispatch to keep equipment running

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment

Equipment You Will Service

  • CAT 980 Loaders

  • Pavers

  • Milling machines

  • Rollers & scrapers

  • Excavators

  • Compaction equipment

  • Asphalt paving equipment

  • CAT 6090 and similar heavy machinery

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a heavy equipment diesel mechanic

  • Strong diagnostic and repair skills across multiple equipment types

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Clean MVR (no DUI or reckless driving)

  • Ability to work independently in the field and manage fast‑paced repair demands

  • Strong safety awareness and reliability

Schedule

Monday–Saturday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Hours may extend based on asphalt production schedules

  • Overtime potential: 60+ hours per week during peak season

Work Area

  • Start and dispatch from the Lipan plant

  • Service territory: 50‑mile radius (Longmont to Sedalia, CO)

  • 80% field work at active job sites

Compensation & Benefits

  • $3,000 sign‑on bonus

  • $1,000 at 90 days

  • $1,000 at 6 months

  • $1,000 at 12 months

  • Company service truck provided

  • Three medical plan options (high‑deductible plan is 100% employer‑paid)

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $79040.00/yr.
